Which Metro Vancouver cities have a garage door repair page?
Each city below has its own page. The line under each name is one thing about that city's homes or weather that bears on a garage door.
- VancouverVancouver Specials from 1965 to 1985 and strata-titled R1-1 multiplexes, so door age and strata approval both come up.
- SurreyAbout 1 in 6 homes is a townhouse, so check the strata before a door change.
- LangleyRow houses are 21.6% of Township homes, and the Township gets roughly twice the airport's snow.
- BurnabyHills up to 370 m and more snow uphill, with townhouses in strata.
- RichmondFew basements, so garages hold more and doors see more use.
- CoquitlamAmong the wettest readings in the region, so rust and seals need watching.

Does where you live change what a garage door goes through?
It can, mostly through moisture. Rain and the damp inside a closed garage rust hardware over time, and salt air near the ocean adds to it; our garage door maintenance page covers seals, wood doors and salt in one place.
Who decides about a garage door in a BC strata?
Your strata's plan and bylaws do. Under the Strata Property Act, the strata corporation repairs and maintains common property, and its bylaws can hand parts of that duty to owners or take on parts of a strata lot.
Where no bylaws of its own are filed, BC's Standard Bylaws apply. Under them an owner repairs their own strata lot, the strata repairs certain exterior doors that front on common property, and an owner needs the strata's written approval before altering an exterior door. A strata may file its own bylaws instead, so read yours.
The Province also says a strata must tell owners who repairs limited common property. If the answer allows a new door, the new garage door page covers the choices. This is general information, not legal advice.
Service area questions
Do garage door repair prices change from one city to another?
The price ranges in the cost guide are Metro Vancouver market ranges, gathered from published price pages, so they are not split by city. What moves a price most is the door and the parts it needs. The garage door repair cost guide lists the typical range for each common job.
How do I find out my city's permit rules for a new garage door?
Ask your municipality's building department, since each city sets its own rules. In Vancouver, the city's building and renovating pages say not all projects need a permit and offer an online tool to check yours. Changing the size of the opening is the kind of work most likely to need one.
Is there a city page for my neighbourhood?
The six city pages cover the cities as a whole. If you live in a neighbourhood inside one of them, use that city's page. For anywhere else, call and ask, or start on the garage door repair Vancouver homepage.
